What is allowed in Era of Rebellion? |
| Stories that would earn a PG rating if they were films; stories like the Star Wars movies, all of which are rated PG. Violence is limited and not particularly graphic, there are very few torture scenes, and sexual themes are downplayed. Bear in mind that not all of the Star Wars literature published meets these standards. | |
Language and Profanity |
Era of Rebellion is not a free-for-all on language, including things that fictional characters say to one another. The general rule of thumb is that curses used in the Star Wars movies ("hell" and "damn") are allowed, as well as curses from the books. Allowable: hell, damn, crap, ass/arse and derivatives (when not being used as an insult at a person), bitch (true dictionary definition and verb usage), bastard (dictionary definition and some verb usage), penis/vagina/any proper term for genitalia (only in a sheer biological sense and discussion), bloody, sod, bugger. These words will not be edited (if used as indicated). It should be noted that as far as language goes, characters are people, too. Not Allowed: f*ck (and any term/acronym that implies it), c*nt, n*gger/ch*nk/g**k/any racial slur, gay/gh*y/h*mo/d*ke (used in derogatory fashion), sh*t, c*ck, pr*ck, p*ssy (when referring to anything other than in the feline sense), bitch (referencing a person), bastard (when used as an insult to any person), slut/whore/ho, w*nker, t*sser, a**hole/ar**hole, God damn, Jesus Christ (when not referring to Jesus himself). These words have been "starred out" in the list, but are still recognizable as a reference point. Note that this list is subject to change. In stories, however, we encourage you to find your own Star Wars curse words. Please remember the Not Allowed words include any and all variations of these words. i.e.: bitchslap and son of a bitch. |

Sex and Violence |
| Era of Rebellion is rated PG, by the standard of American movies, and members agree to uphold the site's Family-Friendly rating upon registration. The line can be fuzzy and hard to define, but there is a point at which it is passed, and in roleplaying it can be particularly difficult. | |
Treatment of Other Members |
| Flaming, baiting, trolling, and being abusive of fellow members is forbidden by the Era of Rebellion Terms of Service, to which all members agree. Whatever actual words are used, cursing at a fellow member in the course of an argument or story is never permitted. This includes flames sent as instant messages. | |
Sexual References |
As opposed to sexual depictions,
addressed in ratings, sexual references may simply be comments made
in passing. This can be a bit slippery: 1) Mentioning prostitution is generally acceptable although it should not be glorified; and again, sexual encounters cannot be explicit. 2) Mentioning incest is questionable, and would depend on context however, depictions of characters engaging in incestual practices or having incest as an ongoing theme in a story are not allowed. 3) Rape can be discussed but should not be graphically depicted, or, if it can be helped, depicted at all, though the emotional and practical fallout is fair game. 4) Sadomasochism, even if it is consensual, is not acceptable. |

Mature Themes |
Stories may be based on mature themes,
such as drug abuse and torture, but the PG ratings mentioned above
must be observed, and instances of either should be treated
obliquely for that reason. Drug use: Drug use should not be shown in great detail and certainly should not be glorified under any circumstances. It should not be used for humorous purposes. Torture: Torture is similar to drug use and rape in that it should be alluded to, rather then actually shown. Its use in a story should also be limited. Generally, no more than three instances of described (instead of alluded to) torture should occur in the entire story. In general more than one instance of described torture within a single story post would also be considered excessive. Ongoing torture may only be alluded to, not shown, and only IF it is necessary for the story. Authors who exceed the limits on any of these issues will be asked to edit their work until it complies with Era of Rebellion's standard. As these are real issues, and serious ones at that, we ask that you always treat them with tact, caution and respect. |

Slash |
| Slash fiction ("Fanfic featuring people of the same gender romantically involved") is not permitted for publication at Era of Rebellion. This includes fiction of other genres that while not technically 'slash' contain some of the elements that make up a slash story. As they are used in officially released material, allusions and innuendo are permissible, so long as they remain ambiguous and are in reference to original characters. | |
Religious Issues/Blasphemy |
| Stories should not make fun of or otherwise insult real life religions, but religion may be addressed, and religious icons may be used in humorous ways as long as it's kept in mind that the faith itself is never attacked. In other words, one might use a Book of Genesis style to spoof a character or an event in Star Wars, but not vice versa. Of particular note: judgment will not be based on which religion was the spoof basis...a slur on Hinduism or Buddhism (or any other religion) is to be seen the same way as a slur on Christianity. | |
Interspecies Romantic Relationships |
i) All pairings that appear in the EU
are allowable. For example, in the X-Wing Series, there was a
pairing of Face Loran (a human) and Dia Passik (a Twi’lek). Since
there has already been an EU example, a human/Twi’lek pairing would
be allowable in a story, and would not necessarily need to involve
Face and Dia. ii) Species involved in the pairings should be sentient species with sentience defined as species that have language and culture. iii) For a definition of pairing:
v) For Human/Alien pairings, the human may only be paired with another humanoid. The definition of humanoid we've settled on is as follows: For each species considered, if the
character could be played by an actor in a suit (this includes pre
and post-CGI era), then it is considered humanoid and is allowed.
Species that are played by a person in a costume such as Wookiees,
Neimoidians, and Ewoks are considered humanoid. Beings such as Yoda,
who was played by a puppet originally, or Sebulba, who in The
Phantom Menace was a CGI creation, but who would have been played by
a puppet in the days before CGI, is not. Characters that are CGI
creations, or part CGI creations, but which could have been played
by an actor in a costume in the pre-CGI era would count as humanoid.
Thus Gunguns would be considered humaniods just as Neimoidians or
Mon Calamari would be. |
